Our History |
The CONTRA COSTA S.P.C.A. has rescued homeless, neglected and abused animals since 1958. Through the warmth and caring love of our foster homes and your donations, we medically treat, rehabilitate and place hundreds of wonderful pets into loving homes each year. We are a no-kill organization: we keep and care for as many adoptable pets as we can handle. When pets are placed in their new homes, we bring new at-risk pets into our program. You Can Help |
Do you want to make a difference? You can help! We are a foster home-based rescue organization; therefore, we need good foster homes. Can you take one a pet home during the week and bring it to our adoption center on the weekend? If so, we need you. Fostering a pet is a great experience, and there are few things as rewarding as knowing you saved an animal that faced certain death. If you can't foster, there are many ways you can help such as walking the dogs, cleaning cages at the adoption center, writing newsletters, fundraising, etc. Please call 925-216-9927 or 925-323-0667 or stop by our adoption center to see how it all works and how you can help! |

How it Works |
When you come to meet our animals (primarily dogs and cats), we will give you any background information we have about the dog or cat. If you are interested in adopting, you can hold the cat or walk the dog around. Prior to an adoption, we interview you and your family to ensure a good match for the pet as well as for you. Since most animals are in foster homes, we know them pretty well and can make sure they will be compatible with you and your lifestyle. If during a two week adjustment period it doesn't look as though it's working out, we will take the animal back and refund your adoption donation upon request. After the 2 week adjustment period, we will still take the animal back but will keep your donation. Upon successful completion of the interview, there is an adoption contract and an adoption donation, which includes the pet's medical treatments, if any, neuter/spay, and any of the necessary shots the animal has received to date. Obedience Training will be required with all puppies/dogs adopted. When you adopt the animal you get a free vet check up to insure your pet's health. We want to help you find a pet you will keep for life. | One of many success stories....
